Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

At HeadStart we are fully aware that no two people are the same, each of us has individual needs and goals to achieve be it training for your first 5K run, trying to beat your best marathon time, or whether you are just someone who enjoys living an active lifestyle and have aches and pains that are starting to get in your way. Physios have a number of tools they can use ranging from electrotherapy & ultrasound, soft tissue & joint mobilisation through to rehab and postural re-education.

Physiotherapy can treat:

Sports Injuries

  • Ankle sprains / Knee sprains
  • Ligament / tendon damage
  • Chronic Injuries (tendonitis) – Jumpers Knee, Tennis Elbow, Golfers Elbow
  • Young athlete condition – Osgood schlatters, severs disease

Our therapists work with a number of high level and elite sports clubs and athletes of all ages. If you have a persistent problem, our approach is to identify what the problem is in the long term to prevent it happening again, rather than just giving a short term fix.

Post Operative Rehabilitation

  • Knee replacement
  • Ankle surgery
  • Hip surgery
  • Shoulder decompression
  • ACL reconstruction
  • Spine and neck injuries
  • Whiplash
  • “Slipped disc”
  • Sciatica
  • Nerve entrapment
  • Facet joint dysfunction
  • Chronic Low Back pain
  • Muscular Pain

Back and neck pain can be one of the most debilitating conditions, and cause the highest number of days off work and sport in the UK. Our awareness of this, ensures that we get you back to your best by taking a detailed history, observing your natural movement patters, identifying any movement dysfunctions and getting that diagnosis to assist our treatment approach.

Occupational Injuries

  • Trigger finger
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
  • Nerve compression
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Repetitive Strain Injuries

Your session

Initial consultations take up to 45 mins however if your problem requires further investigation this may take longer as at HeadStart we’re determined in getting to the bottom of even the most complex of cases.

The physiotherapist will take a full history of your current condition, any past medical history and anything that may relate to your current condition. You will then receive a thorough examination, where the physiotherapist will talk you through each step and discuss any findings with you. We pride ourselves on making our patients feel confident and at ease throughout both assessments and treatments therefore we constantly communicate with you about what we are doing and what everything means. The session will usually end with a short treatment.

During your follow up we will reassess your condition and continue with treatment as discussed at the end of the previous session.

How we treat?

This is where we are different! We don’t compromise on diagnosis  and we are not just happy with knowing that you have a certain condition, we want to know why, how, and how we can change it. We believe strongly that self management in the long term is the most beneficial to the patient as it will allow you to try and prevent any future injuries.
