    About - Richard Patman

Sports Massage Therapist and Strength & Conditioning Coach

    Experience

After a few years of messing around with different sports including tennis, discus and weight training in a friends shed Richard started to get more interested in various martial arts:

  • He first focused on Thai-Boxing and with some regular training became regional champion.
  • He then started paying more attention to weights and began Olympic lifting. In late 2002 he switched to powerlifting and by 2003 he had won the British Championships & World Championships in power lifting, bench press.
  • He organised the first two “Cambridge strongest man”competitions. It was a really good way of getting everyone in the local gyms to have something to train for and raising funds for charity.

  • Coaching Approach

He has been a Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist since 2003 and although he still trains, he’s stopped competing. This allows him more time to focus on training others and helping people achieve their goals. He is constantly creating different training protocols (which he normally tests on himself before prescribing them to clients!) which keeps training interesting.

In the past he has helped clients get the results they want:

Improving lifting techniques, losing weight, gaining muscle, getting stronger while remaining in a certain weight class, or just getting healthier.

Not everyone is a full time athlete so the routines and any dietary advice vary as much as the individuals he trains. Working around your lifestyle and ability which is key to getting realistic results.

Much of his spare time is now taken up by his extremely lazy dog Monty who is proving to be much harder to train and motivate than any client he has come across! Besides sport, he is also interesting in painting, particularly Victorian art and his own portrait painting, whenever Monty gives him the time.
