About - Vicki Marsh

After completing a BA and MSc in Biological Sciences at Oxford University HeadStart Massage began on the 21st March 2006.

Our lead therapist Vicki Marsh enrolled the Sports Massage Diploma course run by SPS services in London. This was one of the few recognised courses by the Sports Massage Association ensuring from the outset that HeadStart Massage would be a step above most other therapists.

After completing the course and qualifying as one of the top students in her class, Vicki Marsh began practicing Sports Massage in November 2006. Since then HeadStart Massage has not only increased clients but has also expanded to cover 3 clinics found throughout Cambridge.

Over the coming months our HeadStart Massage therapist will be attending courses on Lower Limb Biomechanics,Trigger Point Therapy and the 2007 Sports Massage Association 3 day conference

Background - Vicki Marsh

During earlier life I was never particulary involved in sport beyond the weekly PE lessons. I have to say I still remember the runs round the school field we were made to do once a term - never a highlight!

When at university I took up rowing. Things started off pretty laid back but somehow I ended up in my 4th year having progressing from rowing on Sunday afternoons (only the sunny ones!) to representing Oxford University and training 12 times a week!

Throughout my rowing career I was plagued with back pain due to poor technique and lack of good core stability. After approaching my GP and being told to take painkillers and come back in 6 months I decided to look elsewhere for help. At 20 years of age and with chronic bad pain so bad that it threatened my ability to study I was in a bad position.

It was then that I turned to complementary medicine as way to helping my situation. I tried a number of different therapies and found that massage or soft tissue therapy was by far the most effective for my condition. After seeing a massage therapist for a few sessions I went from not being able to sit still for more than 5 minutes and not rowing to training 12 times a week and able to revise comfortably for my finals.
